Richard C. Meyer, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on May 6, 1938, in Granite City, IL to the late Harry and Ruby (Pease) Meyer.
Richard married, Joyce Ann Oberdieck, she preceded him in death.
Richard started his career in the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office in 1976, starting as a deputy sheriff. He was voted in as sheriff in 1982 and served until 1986, returning as sheriff from 1994 until retiring in 2006. He also served as a volunteer EMT for the county for 25 years, served as the Village of Brussels Marshall, served as the county chairman for the republican party after retiring as sheriff, and was the county coroner for 12 years. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. He was a member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and was a lifetime member of the Brussel's American Legion Post 685 and the NRA.
